1. Who can repair the drainage ditch in front of my house?

a. Please contact the Administrative Office of Roads and Transportation at 205-325-5141 or fill out the form on our webpage to check if Jefferson County is responsible for your residence. Property ownership and right-of-way also play a role in determining who is responsible for repairing your ditch. If Jefferson County decides that it is our responsibility, we will add the repair to our work list and address it accordingly.

2. How do I report a pothole?

3. Who do I call about mowing the right-of-way in our neighborhood?

a. Please follow this link to submit a request for mowing, note that our mowing is not intended to create a golf course.  Jefferson County Roads and Transportation mows primarily for visibility, which is often maintained at a higher level than what you should find in a personal lawn. than how you would mow your personal lawn.

4. Who picks up my garbage?

a. It depends on where you live. In unincorporated Jefferson County, AmWaste handles curbside residential garbage. To set up service, call 205-788-1400 or email customercare@amwasteusa.com

a. To report signage or traffic signal issues call 849-2341 or 849-2336.

7. How do I organize a litter cleanup in my neighborhood?

a. Jefferson County provides materials (gloves, bags, class II safety vests, backpacks) and support (traffic control, trash removal) for volunteers removing litter and trash from county-maintained roadways and rights of way. This program is not for yard debris, branches, or household trash and is coordinated by a person, people, or group in the community. We need one person from the community/organization to be the primary contact.  Click Here for more information.
