Birmingham, AL – The Jefferson County Commission through its CARES-Act funding has purchased 82LIFEPAK cardiac monitor/defibrillator devices, and 95 LUCAS mechanical chest compression devices for 55 County fire departments. The Jefferson County Sheriff plans to purchase an additional 50 LUCAS mechanical chest compression devices for use in patrol units and the county jail pending approval by the Jefferson County Commission at today's commission meeting. The cost of all the units is approximately $4,164,657.00. “This is truly life-saving equipment we are providing to these departments that otherwise they would not have the funds to purchase, especially in the more rural areas where the fire departments are volunteers,” said Commission President Jimmie Stephens. “The entire Commission was 100-percent behind this effort and its one of the many things we have been able to do for our communities during this difficult time.” Municipal fire departments, Jefferson County fire districts, and volunteer fire departments each received a funding allocation from the County’s CARES Act appropriation. Each fire department had the opportunity to order what devices and how many they needed to be offset from their allocation. Training is also being provided on how to use the devices. The items were received by the County on Nov. 30 and are in the process of being distributed. |
