Jefferson County to Cut Ribbon On New Bagley Storm Shelter

JEFFERSON COUNTY TO CUT RIBBON ON NEW BAGLEY STORM SHELTER 3 PM, APRIL 27, 7175 BANKHEAD HWY,DORA, AL

WHO: Members of the Jefferson County Commission led by Commission President Jimmie Stephens and volunteer Bagley Fire Chief, Daryl Tavel, will cut the ribbon on this recently completed storm shelter.

WHAT: Remembering the historic 2011 super outbreak of tornadoes in Alabama, Jefferson County will open another storm shelter for citizens. This shelter cost approximately $300,000 and was funded from the County’s General Fund budget. Four additional shelters are in progress in Glenwood, Graysville, Palmerdale, and Warrior River. The Commission has approved more than $1 million in funds this year to the construction of these shelters for its citizens.

Currently there are 38 storm shelters in Jefferson County. Locations can be accessed by visiting the Jefferson County EMA website at: https://www.jeffcoema.org/. These shelters provide a “safe place” for citizens to go in advance of a severe weather event.
