Economic Development: - Passed an amendment for jobs incentives to Brasfield and Gorrie on the expansion of their headquarters here in Birmingham. They are building additional training, meeting and parking space adjacent to their current headquarters.
Public Hearings: - There were 6 other public hearings on the agenda. The following did not pass due to a lack of a motion by the Commission.
- Case Z-24-0056, Case Z-25-0034, B-26-001 (this was an off premises beer and wine license for a Dollar General, the lack of vote means the commission will not send a letter of recomendation to the ABC Board, but the ABC Board could still grant it)
- The resolution for a special assessment on demolition costs for 530 Drake Ave, passed, with the County Mgr meeting with the property owner to work out a payment plan.
- The resolution for demolition costs at 613 Butler Ave were tabled at the request of Development Services because they are working with the property owner.
Roads and Transportation: - Agreement with Gillespie Construction for sidewalk construction, grading, drainage improvements, and pavement markings along Shades Crest Road and Sulphur Springs Road.
- Agreement with the County and City of Birmingham to pave their portions of Edwards Lake Road. The City will reimburse the County for paving costs.
Community Grants: District 1 - Commissioner Scales - Grant with the Jefferson County Board of Education for $5,000 for general public education purposes.
- Grant to the Forestdale Community Development Corporation for $20,000 for improvements to the quality of life and public services for Forestdale residents.
- Grant to the Penny Foundation for $211,000 for the Cultural Immersion Project supporting free musical events and cultural arts programming countywide, as well as health and wellness activities at District 1 Senior Centers.
District 2 - Commissioner Tyson - Paving grant to the City of Bessemer for $80,000 to assist with resurfacing of roads within the city limits.
District 3 - Commissioner Stephens (no grants this session) District 4 - Commissioner Knight (no grants this session) District 5 - Commissioner Bolin - Community grant to the Academy of Craft Training for $50,000 to assist with upgrades to educational programming
County Attorney Office - Opioid Settlement Fund Grant Agreement to the The Lovelady Center for $250,000.
