The following are highlights from the Oct. 9, 2025, Commission Meeting. You can watch a replay of our livestream here. - The Commission held a public hearing and then approved the 2025 Zoning Resolution Amendments. Josh Johnson, Director of Development Services, presented and provided clarity on the development regulations for the Comprehensive Plan, Land Use Map, and Zoning Ordinance. - The Comprehensive Plan, Forward Together, is the governing document that guides future development in unincorporated Jefferson County. It reflects citizen feedback provided in community meetings. It responds to the critical need for a cohesive growth and development strategy that is both visionary and practical, accounting for the diverse geographic, economic, and social contexts that define the County. It supports context-sensitive development, promotes mixed-use and walkable environments where appropriate, and reinforces rural and agricultural identity in outlying areas.

- Commissioners approved an update to the execution of the HOME-ARP Grant Agreement Amendment #1 to the grant agreement between Jefferson County, Alabama and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Modification. This update is to accept additional HOME-ARP funding in the amount of $5,389.00 for an adjusted total of $3,602,800.00. All other terms and conditions of the agreement remain the same.
- Commissioners also approved a resolution regarding the Alabama Simplified Seller Use Tax (SSUT) Program Resolution that encourages the Alabama Legislature to oppose any legislative changes that would disrupt the SSUT Program's operations or call the Program's constitutionality into question. The Alabama Simplified Seller Use Tax (SSUT) program is a voluntary program that allows eligible remote sellers and marketplace facilitators to collect and remit a single, flat 8% use tax on all sales made into Alabama. This program simplifies the tax collection process for out-of-state businesses that have no physical presence (nexus) in Alabama. For additional information on the SSUT program click here.
Commissioners also approved the following district funds grants:

- Community Grant Program Agreement in the amount of $10,000.00 with the Nadyne G. Johnson Foundation to support the Magic City Classic 205 Youth Film Makers Symposium, providing for film industry exposure for Jefferson County youth, film education services to include script writing, film production and direction skills.
